甲骨文“爵”是一件酒器的侧面图：横的一道是口沿，口沿上竖起的小柱是爵特有的立柱，腹中常加一小方或一横，下面伸出两条或三条外撇的足。和“鼎”相比，鼎是又宽又深的大锅，爵的腹小，口上还多一根柱。
甲骨文「爵」是一件酒器的側面圖：橫的一道是口沿，口沿上豎起的小柱是爵特有的立柱，腹中常加一小方或一橫，下面伸出兩條或三條外撇的足。和「鼎」相比，鼎是又寬又深的大鍋，爵的腹小，口上還多一根柱。
Oracle-bone 爵 is a wine vessel in profile: the horizontal is the rim, the little upright standing on it is the post that only a 爵 has, a small square or bar often sits in the body, and two or three splayed legs come out below. Beside 鼎, a wide deep cauldron, 爵 has a small body and that extra post on its mouth.
