甲骨文“豆”是一件高脚食器：上面是盛食的盘，盘里常刻一横，一般认为是盛着的东西或盖；下面是细长的柄和底座。今天“豆”指豆子，那是后来借用的意思，本来它是器皿的名字。和“皿”比一比：“豆”多出中间那根细高的柄。
甲骨文「豆」是一件高腳食器：上面是盛食的盤，盤裡常刻一橫，一般認為是盛著的東西或蓋；下面是細長的柄和底座。今天「豆」指豆子，那是後來借用的意思，本來它是器皿的名字。和「皿」比一比：「豆」多出中間那根細高的柄。
Oracle-bone 豆 is a footed serving vessel: the dish on top usually has a bar cut inside it, generally taken to be the food it holds or its lid; below are the slender stem and the base. Today 豆 means "bean", a later borrowing; its first sense is the vessel. What 豆 adds to 皿 is that tall, narrow stem.
