甲骨文“卩”只画一个跪着的人：上身一笔弯下来，下面的腿折成尖角收在身子底下。它极少单独成词，多半做偏旁——“印”“令”“命”“即”“既”里跪着的那半边都是它。它和“尸”的分别在腿：“尸”的腿向前屈伸，“卩”的腿折在身子底下。《说文》把它写作“卪”，讲成符节一类的信物，那是按后来的用法说的。

Oracle-bone 卩 draws nothing but a kneeling person: one stroke curves down for the upper body and the leg folds into a sharp angle tucked underneath. It hardly ever stands alone as a word; it works as a component, and it is the kneeling half of 印, 令, 命, 即 and 既. What separates it from 尸 is the leg: 尸 reaches forward, 卩 folds back under the body. 說文 writes it 卪 and explains it as a tally of office, which reflects a later use rather than the picture.
