甲骨文“页”是“首”加上一个人的身子：上面是画得很大的脑袋，下面是跪坐的人。它和“首”的分别就在下面接不接身子。今天“页”用来写书页，那是后来借的用法；做部首时它还保留着“头”的意思，“頭”“顏”“頸”都从它。《说文》说“頁，頭也”。

Oracle-bone 頁 is 首 (a head) with a body added below: an outsized head on top, a kneeling figure beneath. What separates it from 首 is simply whether a body hangs below. Today 页 writes a page of a book, a later borrowing; as a component it still means “head”, which is why 頭, 顏 and 頸 all carry it. 說文 glosses it plainly: “頁 is the head.”
