甲骨文“劦”是三个“力”并排，《说文》说得很直白：“劦，同力也，从三力。”至于“力”画的是什么，现代古文字学者多认为是翻土的农具（“耒”一类），那道短横就是踏脚的横木；《说文》另有一说，把它讲成人身上的筋。前一说占多数，但两说并存，所以这里的图形解释标为“较可能”。卜辞里“劦”也用作一种祭名。

Oracle-bone 劦 is three 力 side by side, and 《說文》 says as much: 劦，同力也，从三力 — strength joined, from three 力. What 力 itself draws is the open question: most modern palaeographers take it for a digging tool of the 耒 kind, the short bar being the crosspiece the foot pressed on, while 《說文》 reads it as the sinew of the body. The tool reading leads but both are held, so the picture is graded probable. In the divinations 劦 also names a rite.
