甲骨文“享”（本作“亯”）画一座高台上的厅堂：屋身窄，台座宽，里面不开门洞，这是它和“高”分开的地方。商人在这样的堂里向祖先献牲献酒，所以这个字后来就用作“献祭、享受”。《说文》说“亯，献也……象进孰物形”，把字形讲成端上熟食的样子，那是汉代人从字义倒推的分析；古文字学者一般还是把它看作建筑。

Oracle-bone 享 (written 亯) draws a hall on a platform: a narrow body over a wide base, and no doorway cut into it — that is what keeps it apart from 高. In such a hall the Shang set out animals and ale for their ancestors, which is how the character came to mean “offer, enjoy an offering”. 說文 says “亯 means to present … a picture of cooked food being brought up”, reading the graph back from the meaning; palaeographers generally still read it as a building.
