“得”是“贝”加“又”：贝是从海边来的宝贝，商代拿它当赏赐和财货；“又”是一只手。手上拿着贝，就是“得到”。有些字形左边还加“彳”，把这件事放到路上——出门一趟，带着东西回来。卜辞里“得”多半跟田猎、征行连着问：这一趟有没有所得。《说文》训“行有所得也”，正是这个意思。

得 is 貝 with 又: the shell that came up from the coast and served the Shang as gift and treasure, and a hand. A hand with a shell in it is “got”. Some forms add 彳 on the left, putting the act on a road — you go out and you come back carrying something. The divinations ask it beside hunting and marching: did the trip bring anything in. 說文's gloss, 行有所得也, “to have gained something in going”, says the same.
