“秉”把两个已经学过的部件摆在一起：右边是“禾”——一根秆子，顶上的穗垂着，中间一片叶，底下是根；左边是“又”——一条长划加两根手指。甲骨文里两个部件常常并排站着，到金文、小篆才变成手横穿过禾秆。《说文》说“秉，禾束也。从又，持禾”，说得正是这幅画。
「秉」把兩個已經學過的部件擺在一起：右邊是「禾」——一根稈子，頂上的穗垂著，中間一片葉，底下是根；左邊是「又」——一條長劃加兩根手指。甲骨文裡兩個部件常常並排站著，到金文、小篆才變成手橫穿過禾稈。《說文》說「秉，禾束也。从又，持禾」，說的正是這幅畫。
秉 sets two familiar parts side by side: on the right 禾, a stalk with the ear drooping at the top, one leaf at the middle and roots below; on the left 又, the long stroke with two fingers branching off it. In the oracle-bone script the two parts usually stand next to each other; only in bronze and seal writing does the hand cross the stalk. 說文's gloss, “秉 is a sheaf of grain; from 又 holding 禾”, describes exactly this picture.
