“圉”是“执”的木枷加上一个方框：框是围墙，框里那件上方下尖的东西就是木枷（“幸”）。有的写法干脆把整个“执”——枷和跪着的人一起——都关进框里，画面更直白。要和“田”分开就看框里：“田”里是横竖分格的田埂，“圉”里是一件立着的器具。《说文》给了三个说法：“囹圄，所以拘罪人”“垂也”“圉人，掌马者”，第一个才是甲骨文的用法。

圉 is the manacle of 執 with a square drawn round it: the square is a wall and the object inside, square on top and pointed below, is the wooden manacle 幸. Some forms shut the whole of 執 inside — manacle and kneeling prisoner together — which is plainer still. To keep it apart from 田, look inside the square: 田 is divided by field paths, 圉 holds one upright object. 說文 offers three glosses — a gaol for holding criminals, a border, and a groom in charge of horses — and only the first fits the oracle-bone use.
