“友”就是两只“又”并排：一条长划带两根手指，重复一次。两只手朝同一个方向，表示同心协力，这正是它和“从”的分别——“从”是两个侧立的人，一前一后；“友”是两只手，每只都带手指。《说文》说“同志为友。从二又，相交友也”，讲的也是这个。

友 is simply two 又 side by side: a long stroke with two fingers, written twice. Both hands face the same way, for working together — and that is what separates it from 从, which is two standing figures one behind the other, while 友 is two hands, each with its fingers. 說文 says as much: “those of one mind are 友; from two 又, joining as friends”.
