一边是“酉”，就是鼓腹尖底的酒坛；另一边是一个俯身的人，嘴张成一个大口子对着坛口。到金文、小篆，俯身的人固定写成“欠”，酒坛那边则换了偏旁，字形就离图画越来越远。

One side is 酉, the round-bellied, pointed-based wine jar; the other is a person bending over it with the mouth gaping at the jar's rim. In bronze and seal writing the bending figure settles into 欠 and the jar side is replaced, so the graph drifts away from the picture.
