The two hands raise no question; the thing between them does. One reading takes it for 𠂤, a heap of earth or an army's encampment, so that two hands holding it means sending out a body of men. A second takes it for a piece of meat held up in both hands; a third for a bag of shells. The stand beneath is sometimes reduced to a single base stroke and sometimes dropped. 說文 says 遣，縱也。从辵， 聲 — “遣 is to let go; from 辵, with the right-hand element for sound” — an analysis of the settled seal form. The divinations use the word for sending: the king sends so-and-so to such a place.
