甲骨文“来”画的是一株麦子，本义就是“麦”。卜辞里它已经常被借去写来去的“来”，借义后来通行，本义另造了“麦”字，这是借音，不是字形有疑问。和“黍”比，“来”的麦芒向上翘，“黍”的穗枝向下垂，旁边还散着谷粒。
甲骨文「來」畫的是一株麥子，本義就是「麥」。卜辭裡它已經常被借去寫來去的「來」，借義後來通行，本義另造了「麥」字，這是借音，不是字形有疑問。和「黍」比，「來」的麥芒向上翹，「黍」的穗枝向下垂，旁邊還散著穀粒。
Oracle-bone 來 draws a wheat plant, and “wheat” is its original sense. Already in the divination records it is borrowed for 來 “to come”; that loan won out and a new character 麥 was made for the grain — a borrowing of the sound, not a doubt about the picture. Against 黍, the awns of 來 lift upwards while the ears of 黍 hang down with loose grains beside them.
