甲骨文“龟”多从背上看：中间是背甲，甲上刻出一道道甲缝，上下伸出头和尾，左右伸出四足。商人正是在龟的腹甲上钻凿、灼烧、刻辞，我们说的“甲骨文”，“甲”指的就是它。

Oracle-bone 龟 is usually seen from above: the shell in the middle with the seams of its plates cut across it, head and tail at top and bottom, four legs to the sides. Shang diviners drilled, burned and inscribed the turtle's underside — the 甲 in 甲骨文 is exactly this shell.
