啟 is 戶 with 又: 戶 is a single-leaf door — two leaves make 門 — and 又 is a right hand. One hand pushing one door: to open. The mouth that some forms add underneath is a later component and changes nothing. What the divinations mostly ask about is not a door but the sky: 今日啟, 不其啟 — will it clear today, will it not clear — the word for opening turned upward at the clouds. 說文 glosses 啟 as 教也, “to instruct”, which is a later extension from “to open up a mind”; what the graph itself draws is still a door being opened.
