这个字要和本书里的“农”一起看。两个字在《甲骨文编》里同属一个字号（五八），头一个字头写作“蓐”；换句话说，甲骨上只有一个字形——草木之间一把蚌刀——后世才分写成“蓐”“薅”“农”三个字。所以本章的“蓐”和《土地》章的“农”画的是同一族字形，只是取的摹本不同：这里选的三形带把柄的蚌刀刻得更圆，“农”那边取的是方折的写法。商代那一个词到底该读哪一个，卜辞分不出来，所以标“较可信”。《说文》说“蓐，陳艸復生也。从艸，辱聲。一曰蔟也”，把它讲成割过再长的旧草，又说是草席；“草席”这层意思出于后世的书，甲骨上没有。小學堂的金文库里没有收这个字，金文一格是照本条的甲骨主形画的，不据某件铜器。

This character has to be read alongside 農 elsewhere in this library. 甲骨文編 files both under one entry, number 58, headed 蓐. In other words there is a single graph on the bones — a shell blade among growth — which later splits into three characters, 蓐, 薅 and 農. So the 蓐 of this chapter and the 農 of the Land chapter draw the same family of shapes; only the copies chosen differ, the three here taking the rounder blades with a handle, and 農 the squared-off hands. Which of those words the Shang were writing, the divinations cannot tell us apart, so the badge stays at probable. 說文 says “蓐 is old grass growing again; from 艸, with 辱 as the sound. Some say it is a mat” — the mat sense comes from later books and is not on the bones. The 小學堂 bronze database holds no form for this character, so the bronze panel here is drawn after this entry’s own oracle primary and follows no particular vessel.
