甲骨文“夫”是“大”加一横：这一横短短地横在头顶下面，一般认为是束起的头发上插的簪子（《说文》说“一以象簪也”），是成年男子的标记。和“天”比一比：“天”加的是整个头顶，“夫”加的是一根短横，人形的头还在横画上面露出一小截。

Oracle-bone 夫 is 大 plus one short bar just below the crown, generally taken to be the pin through a grown man's bound-up hair (說文: “一以象簪也”). Compare 天, where the whole crown is marked; in 夫 the bar is short and a stub of head still shows above it.
