甲骨文“大”是正面的人形：两臂张开、两腿叉开，头只用身子上端的一小截表示。两臂多作一道弧线，有的下垂，有的上扬。侧面站着、只有一条手臂的是“人”。用一个张开双臂的人来表示“大”，是甲骨文里典型的抽象用法：画得出的形体，借来记画不出的意思。

Oracle-bone 大 is a figure seen from the front: arms spread, legs apart, the head no more than a short stub at the top of the body. The arms are usually one shallow arc, drooping in some forms and lifting in others. A figure in profile with a single arm is 人. Using an outstretched person to stand for “big” is a typical abstract use in this script: a shape you can draw, borrowed for a meaning you cannot.
