“入”只有两笔，画的是什么，学界并没有统一。多数学者跟着徐中舒《甲骨文字典》，把它读作半地穴住处的入口（所以下面是敞开的）；另一种说法认为它画的是尖锐的东西——尖端才插得进去。《说文》说“象从上俱下也”，是汉代人就小篆字形作的解释。因为占优势的是“入口”一说，但并未被普遍接受，这里的图形解释标为“较可能”。要和“人”分开就看下面：“人”有一条手臂从身子上分出来，“入”只是两笔交成的尖角。

入 is only two strokes, and what they depict is not settled. Most scholars follow 徐中舒's 甲骨文字典 and read it as the entrance of a semi-subterranean dwelling, open at the bottom; another account takes it for a pointed object, since only a point can go in. 說文 says it “shows things coming down together from above”, a Han reading of the seal form. The entrance reading leads without being universal, so the picture is graded “probable”. To keep it apart from 人, look at the lower half: 人 has an arm branching off the body, while 入 is just two strokes meeting at a point.
