上半是“口”，下半是侧身的人形，两部分上下相接。在商代，向祖先开口说话、主持家中祭祀的是年长的男子，所以这个开口的人形用来记“兄”。和“祝”相比，“兄”的旁边没有祭台“示”。

The top half is 口 (a mouth), the bottom half a figure seen from the side, joined one above the other. In Shang practice the man who spoke to the ancestors and led the family's offerings was the senior son, and this open-mouthed figure writes 兄. Next to 祝, 兄 has no altar 示 standing beside it.
