甲骨文“矢”从上到下画出箭头、箭杆和箭羽，箭杆下段那个菱形是扣弦的栝，有的写法把它简作一道横。它和“干”都是一竖加横画，分辨的办法是看顶端：“矢”的顶端是尖的箭头，“干”的顶端是分叉的木杈。
甲骨文「矢」從上到下畫出箭頭、箭桿和箭羽，箭桿下段那個菱形是扣弦的栝，有的寫法把它簡作一道橫。它和「干」都是一豎加橫畫，分辨的辦法是看頂端：「矢」的頂端是尖的箭頭，「干」的頂端是分叉的木杈。
Oracle-bone 矢 draws head, shaft and fletching down the column; the lozenge low on the shaft is the nock that takes the string, and some forms reduce it to a single bar. 矢 and 干 are both an upright with crossbars, and the top decides it: 矢 ends in a point, 干 ends in a fork.
