甲骨文“朿”画的是带刺的枝条，顶端还削成尖。《说文》说“朿，木芒也。象形。读若刺”，它就是“刺”的本字。和“来”比，“朿”上部的刺是一条平直横出的线，“来”的麦芒是向上翘的两笔。
甲骨文「朿」畫的是帶刺的枝條，頂端還削成尖。《說文》說「朿，木芒也。象形。讀若刺」，它就是「刺」的本字。和「來」比，「朿」上部的刺是一條平直橫出的線，「來」的麥芒是向上翹的兩筆。
Oracle-bone 朿 draws a thorny branch with a sharpened tip. 說文 glosses it 「朿，木芒也。象形。讀若刺」 — it is the original character for 刺 “to prick”. Against 來, the thorns of 朿 run straight out as one level line, while the awns of 來 are two strokes lifting upwards.
