“乙”是十天干的第二位，商人用它给日子取名。它画的究竟是什么，至今没有定论：《说文》认为它像春天的草木弯曲着钻出地面；另有学者认为是一把刀或一段绳索的侧影；还有一派认为它本来就是一个纯粹的记号，并不描摹任何东西。三说各有支持者，没有一说占上风，所以这里标为有争议。

乙 is the second of the ten heavenly stems, one of the signs the Shang used to name days. What it depicts is still unsettled: the Shuowen takes it for a plant bending as it pushes out of the spring earth; other scholars read a knife or a length of cord seen from the side; a third group holds it was never a picture at all, only a mark. Each reading has support and none leads, so the badge is orange.
