甲骨文“春”把三样东西凑在一起：抽芽的草木、“日”，和一个纺锤形的“屯”。草木和太阳说的是节令，“屯”只管读音。各种写法里草木有两三棵也有四棵，太阳有时在下面、有时在旁边，还有的干脆省掉，所以同一个字看上去很不一样。《说文》把它写作“萅”，说是“从艸、从日，艸春时生也，屯声”，讲的正是这个结构。
甲骨文「春」把三樣東西湊在一起：抽芽的草木、「日」，和一個紡錘形的「屯」。草木和太陽說的是節令，「屯」只管讀音。各種寫法裡草木有兩三棵也有四棵，太陽有時在下面、有時在旁邊，還有的乾脆省掉，所以同一個字看上去很不一樣。《說文》把它寫作「萅」，說是「从艸、从日，艸春時生也，屯聲」，講的正是這個結構。
Oracle-bone 春 puts three things together: sprouting plants, a 日 (sun), and a spindle-shaped 屯. The plants and the sun carry the season; 屯 only carries the sound. The number of plants runs from two to four, the sun sits below or to one side and is sometimes dropped altogether, which is why one character can look so different from form to form. 說文 writes it 萅 and analyses it as “from 艸 and 日, because plants grow in spring, with 屯 as the phonetic” — exactly this structure.
