甲骨文“析”是“木”加“斤”：拿斧头劈木头。《说文》说“析，破木也。从木，从斤”。和“折”比，“析”这边是一棵完整的树，“折”那边是已经断成两截的草。

Oracle-bone 析 is 木 plus 斤: an axe splitting wood. 說文 glosses it 「析，破木也。从木，从斤」. Against 折, the thing beside the axe here is a whole tree; there it is a plant already cut in two.
