“兕”最好认的地方是角：只有一只，而“牛”有两只。卜辞里“兕”是商王田猎的大猎物，一次能猎到几十头。一般认为它指犀牛，也有学者认为是一种野水牛；《说文》只说它“如野牛而青”。

The horn is what identifies 兕: there is only one, where 牛 has two. In the divination records 兕 is big game for the Shang king, taken dozens at a time. It is generally taken to be the rhinoceros, though some scholars read it as a wild water buffalo; 說文 says only that it is “like a wild ox, but blue-green”.
