甲骨文“光”是一个跪坐的人，头顶上顶着一团火苗。火举在人的头上，四下照亮，就是“光”。火苗有的三个尖，有的两个，有的张得像一顶冠；下面的人一律作跪坐的样子，膝盖折成一个弯。《说文》说“光，明也，从火在人上”，跟甲骨文的结构完全对得上——这在《说文》里并不多见。
甲骨文「光」是一個跪坐的人，頭頂上頂著一團火苗。火舉在人的頭上，四下照亮，就是「光」。火苗有的三個尖，有的兩個，有的張得像一頂冠；下面的人一律作跪坐的樣子，膝蓋折成一個彎。《說文》說「光，明也，从火在人上」，跟甲骨文的結構完全對得上——這在《說文》裡並不多見。
Oracle-bone 光 is a kneeling figure with a flame burning above the head: fire held up over a person, lighting everything around — that is “light”. The flame has three points in some forms, two in others, and in some it spreads like a crown; the figure below always kneels, the knee folded into a bend. 說文 says “光 is brightness; fire above a person”, which matches the oracle-bone structure exactly — something that does not happen often.
