甲骨文“火”作中间高、两旁短的火苗形。它和“山”的字形非常接近，学界通常靠辞例来分辨：同一个形体，出现在燎祭、焚田一类卜辞里读作“火”，出现在地名、方国名里多读作“山”。因此这里的图形解释标为“较可能”。

Oracle-bone 火 shows a tall central flame with shorter tongues beside it. Its shape is very close to 山 (mountain), and scholars usually separate the two by context: the same shape reads 火 in divinations about burning offerings, but 山 in place names. That is why the pictorial reading shown here is marked probable rather than certain.
