On the bones this character is written 术: one stalk, a few short branches, a few specks of grain, with no 禾 beside it. 說文 says “秫 is the sticky kind of 稷; from 禾 and 术, a picture”, and adds that “术 is 秫 with 禾 left off” — on that reading 术 draws the glutinous millet plant and the specks are its clinging grains. A second view points out that the same character is later written 朮 and names a medicinal root, 白朮, which is no grain at all: two words sharing one shape. Which plant is drawn here the divinations cannot say. 甲骨文編 collects only five copies, all from 賓組 bones, and the identification as glutinous millet rests on 說文 and later dictionaries rather than on the bones, so the badge stays at probable. The 小學堂 bronze database holds no form for this character, so the bronze panel is drawn after this entry's own oracle primary and follows no particular vessel.
