甲骨文“止”是一只脚：三根脚趾朝同一个方向，脚掌两笔在下面收拢成尖。凡是和走路有关的字，像“步”“出”“各”，里面多半有它。和“又”（手）比一比：手是一笔长画，两指从它的同一侧分出来；脚是三趾长在合拢的脚掌上。
甲骨文「止」是一隻腳：三根腳趾朝同一個方向，腳掌兩筆在下面收攏成尖。凡是和走路有關的字，像「步」「出」「各」，裡面多半有它。和「又」（手）比一比：手是一筆長畫，兩指從它的同一側分出來；腳是三趾長在合攏的腳掌上。
Oracle-bone 止 is a foot: three toes all pointing the same way, with two strokes closing into a pointed sole beneath them. It turns up inside most characters to do with walking, such as 步, 出 and 各. Compare 又, a hand: there one long stroke carries the arm, and the other two fingers branch off the same side of it; here the three toes sit on a closed sole.
