甲骨文“车”是俯视的车形，最完整的写法有双轮、车轴、车辕和车衡，穿过两个轮心的那道长横就是车轴。在骨头上刻圆圈很费力，有的写法只留一个轮子，也有的只刻车轴和两个轮子。到金文、小篆，字形省到只剩一个轮子，笔画又拉直摆正，就成了今天“车”中间那个“田”形。
甲骨文「車」是俯視的車形，最完整的寫法有雙輪、車軸、車轅和車衡，穿過兩個輪心的那道長橫就是車軸。在骨頭上刻圓圈很費力，有的寫法只留一個輪子，也有的只刻車軸和兩個輪子。到金文、小篆，字形省到只剩一個輪子，筆畫又拉直擺正，就成了今天「車」中間那個「田」形。
Oracle-bone 車 is a chariot seen from above; the fullest form has two wheels, an axle, a pole and a yoke, and the long bar through both hubs is the axle. Circles are hard work on bone, so some forms keep a single wheel and others cut only the axle and its two wheels. By bronze and small-seal script the drawing had been reduced to one wheel and straightened out, which is where the box in the middle of today's 車 comes from.
