Set 豚 beside 豕 and the only addition is the piece of meat at the belly. Meat is drawn on the bones as a small block with one or two short strokes inside it for the grain. Sometimes the block lies against the pig, sometimes it is moved clear and cut on its own. On the bones 豚 is a piglet, and it turns up mostly in records of victims. 說文 says “a small pig … from a hand holding meat, for use in the sacrifices”, which adds a hand the bones do not have; that hand belongs to the settled seal shape. On the bones there are only two things, a pig and a piece of meat.
