Below is 木, its branches and roots spreading to both sides; above are two knots of silk. Most scholars read this as a stringed instrument mounted on wood, which is why the graph means music; 說文 offers a different account, 象鼓鞞，木虡也, taking the upper part for drums on a frame. The first reading is the usual one, so the picture is graded 'probable'.
