“鬼”画的是一个人形加一个大得反常的头，这个头几乎都作方框中加十字，像一个“田”字。这个大头是什么，说法不一：一说是戴着面具的人，面具代表死者；一说画的就是魂灵，头部特意画得和活人不同。字形本身只交代“人加异头”，所以这里标为“较可能”。和“人”相比，“鬼”一定多出那个大头。

鬼 draws a human figure with a head that is far too big, and that head is nearly always a box with a cross inside, like the character 田. What it means is disputed: some read a masked person, the mask standing for the dead; others read the spirit itself, drawn with a head deliberately unlike a living one. The picture says only 'person plus a strange head', so this is marked probable. Against a plain 人, 鬼 always has that large head.
