“五”通行的写法是上下两横夹一个交叉，也有直接刻成五道横画的（合15662，宾组）。这个交叉从哪里来还没有定论：一说是绳子上打的结或算筹交叉的样子，一说本来就是一个约定的记号，和图画无关。两说至今相持不下，所以标为“学界有争议”。

The usual form of 五 is a cross held between two bars; some bones instead cut five plain tallies (合15662, Bin group). Where the cross came from is unsettled: some see a knot in a cord or crossed counting rods, others simply an agreed sign with no picture behind it. Neither account has prevailed, so this is marked as scholarly debate.
