The 小學堂 seal database has no headword for 爿: it does not stand alone in 說文 but appears only inside other characters — 疒, at glyph_sick_001 in this library, which draws a person lying on a bed. Read backwards, 爿 is that bed, drawn from the side and set upright. The other reading takes it for a split plank: 木 cut down the middle gives 片 on the right and 爿 on the left. Either will carry the shape, so we grade it probable. Watch out here: this chapter holds two more two-post, two-bar frames — 凡 at glyph_raft_001 and 宁 at glyph_store_001. Tell them apart by proportion: 凡's posts splay outward at the top; 宁 is drawn wide and square with its posts well apart; 爿 is tall and narrow, its bars short and one long pole running the whole height.
